In April 2001 I bought my new Smart, being the first time I had bought a brand new car. To celebrate I looked for a special number plate. Registration numbers began with a Y so I looked on the DVLA website under the letter Y.  In 2001 I also planned to swim every swimming event possible from the 50m Freestyle to the 400m Individual Medley, short and long course, except the 200m Butterly. The answer to what number plate I should have was obvious. I achieved the swimming challenge and bought Y200FLY as a number plate and as a question.

Following the purchase I received a telephone call from an agency from the DVLA advising me that I was their millionth personalised number plate customer. I went to a photo shoot and the article made page 3 of The Sun and it has been in a few car magazines.

In September 2003, following a visit to the Mercedes Benz showroom in Reading, I was persuaded to up grade to a new Smart Brabus edition, see above for the hand over.
