2007 saw myself getting back into training following a bad end to 2006, see previous page.

The target was to get fit for Guernsey, which was held later than previous years, 19th-21st April.

The Bracknell & Wokingham’s Masters Event was on the 3rd March and was the test to see how things were going. Having been awarded Top Male for the previous 2 years and with only some 2 months of training I did not expect to do as well. So overall 5th and just 9 points behind the winner was a plus. Here is a link to the results.

So off to Guernsey for a beautiful long weekend with friends.

The weather was so great; one could have been in the Mediterranean.

Day one, session one, the Friday, saw my first win in the 200m Freestyle, followed by a win in the 100m Breaststroke by only 0.75 seconds. Day 2, session 2, in the morning saw another win in the 100m Freestyle, then a win in the Mixed Freestyle relay.  Next were more 1st places from both the 50m Butterfly and the 200m I/M, with a further win in the mens Freestyle relay. Session 3 in the evening started with a narrow win by 0.12 seconds in the 50m Breaststroke, a gruelling win in the 100m Butterfly and an inspired win in the 400m Freestyle as the previous heat saw my main competitor swim an incredible time, one which I really had to go for. So to Sunday morning for session four with three more swims starting with team victory in the Mens Medley relay. I did the Butterfly leg and an impressive individual time following great swims before and after me. The 100m I/M followed again a win and the final event he mens 50m Freestyle was nearly my downfall. Not wishing to be disqualified at the start it was even slower than usual, but fortunately for me and with the hunger to win wearing the spidey outfit, I won by 0.14 seconds to my fellow club swimmer.  10 out of 10 individual winning events and a very happy me going to the celebratory meal. What made it more was that Kings Cormorants were crowned Top Club. Here is a link to the full results.

Being awarded the Top Man prize again.

All went down hill after that.  All my joints began to ache and I have had more tests that I can think of.  All have settled down. The most inefficient of local Doctors does not help.  During one e.c.g. test, she told the nurse that it was only being done as I was complaining.  I had a Bank medical with BUPA and this confirmed that there is something amiss with the electrical impulses from the results of their e.c.g. and that my blood sugar level was high. The Doctor did not know about this e.c.g. result and fortunately I got her to check the piles of letters lying around and she found it, she initially only had sorted out the letter re the blood tests they did. I have had further blood tests. I went to a specialist about my heart on the 11th January and am now being referred to thr Royal Brompton Hospital.

At the begnning of July we went to Martin and Stephens palace in Spain and visited Seville.

For a bit of light relief we went to Brighton Pride in August.

Then we took the train to Switzerland in September.

I got back into the water after the holiday and of course did not even attempt to think of the Nationals in Sheffield.  I did go to the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire Masters meet in the middle of October and despite winning silver in the four events, these were the slowest recorded times for me since my records started back in 1981.

I have joined the local gym on 23rd September and go about three times a week. Still awaiting the membership card as at 8th January 2008.

In November I helped to manage (on the day) the B&SB team for the Inter-County Masters event, and for the first time, the team won, and with some very impressive swims too and against some strong opposition.

At the end of November we went to Gran Canaria, the high light was eating Japanese.

Crazily, against better judgement, I nipped into the Sea at Brighton on Christmas Day - 8 foot waves.

So, going towards 2008, I can only dream of getting better and from the "2008" page, you will see that I have a lot to look forward to.
